Cloud Scrying
First decide on your question. It needs to be clear and succinct, something easy to hold in your mind with enough detail to be clear on its implications, but not so complicated that it is a distraction to tuning in.
To perform the scrying, go somewhere with a clear and wide view of the sky; a high place like a hilltop is best, but any place with a good view of the sky is fine.
Settle yourself comfortably, lying on your back or sitting, and take some deep breaths. Call in your allies and guides to assist you, especially air and sky allies you may have called already.
Now rest your eyes on a patch of skyâit neednât be a wide panorama unless you are lucky enough to work where you have a wide dramatic view, but it is important your head remain still and take in only that which crosses your vision. Sometimes a small patch of sky works best, but it all depends on where you are.
Now breathe with that patch of skyâimagine your breath as a cycle of energy between you two as you breathe into it, and breath it in by turns. When you feel ready, ask your question to the sky out loud.
Gazing at your chosen patch of sky, let your eyes rest and settle with the mood of the sky. Give yourself plenty of timeâat least half an hourâand see what shapes and movements you can detect. Sometimes you will see animals, beings, or symbols; at other times, the movement of the clouds and their relationship with each other and the world about them will be your answer. Discerning the messages of the clouds is more of a felt and intuitive art rather than anything logical or rational. Ask yourself: how do you feel? What do you feel they are saying?
When you feel you have received your message or itâs time to end the exercise, take a moment to deeply thank the sky and the clouds for their help as well as your guides for their assistance. Take a moment to wiggle or tap your feet upon the ground to really bring your attention back to the ground and your body. Consider also eating something small to really feel earthed. You might also like to record your experiences in a journal.
Weather Magic
On leaving the land the boat was always turned with the sun
âfrom east to westânever in the opposite direction, which was termed widdershins. The movements of witches were always made against the sun, and by whirling a wooden cap in water or a hand-mill on a bare looder (wooden bench on which the mill rested), they were supposed to be able to raise the wind like Furies, and toss the sea in wild commotion capable of destroying anything afloat, from a cock boat to an armada.
